Communication with our children

There is no doubt that the children we raise are our future. As a new mother it concerns me when I hear of tragedies that involve mass killings, robberies, abuse, and kidnappings . Parents are the primary educators of their little ones and just want to know if there is more that parents can do to help prevent such tragedies given there are probably multiple factors involved. Are we now living such fast paced lives that we are forgetting to properly clothed our children with the necessary armor to withstand life's opportunities for growth? I am not placing blame on anyone. I am just a concerned parent. How do we go from happy babies to hating the world?
